A new approach to fiber

identification

Camouflage Coloring Technology Introduces

a New Concept for Optical Fiber Marking

As fiber density increases and cable designs become more application-specific, requirements for reliable and flexible fiber identification continue to grow. Conventional marking methods, typically based on solvent-based systems, are reaching their limits in terms of process efficiency, flexibility and potential influence on fiber performance.

Camouflage Coloring Technology introduces a new concept for optical fiber identification using UV-curable inks. Instead of relying on conventional solvent-based marking with limited variation (typically black rings), the system enables flexible color application with multiple colors, configurable patterns, segment lengths and color sequences.

This approach opens up new possibilities in production design, allowing fiber identification to become an integrated and adaptable part of the manufacturing process rather than a fixed constraint.

Designed for integration into production lines, Camouflage technology supports high-speed processing, simplified handling and greater flexibility in marking strategies. At the same time, the use of UV-curable inks enables a marking approach that is less likely to influence attenuation compared to conventional solvent-based ring marking.

Approach with Camouflage

Camouflage technology addresses these challenges with a UV-based approach to marking.

UV-curable inks, no solvent-based colors

Multi-color marking with up to three colors

(or more)

Configurable color patterns, segment lengths, and sequences

High production speeds (target >1400 m/min)

Simplified process integration

This enables a more flexible and future-oriented approach to fiber identification.

Key Features

The advantages of Camouflage technology extend beyond the marking process itself and influence the final cable product.

With flexible and programmable identification patterns, fibers can be distinguished more clearly and consistently, even in complex high-density cable designs.

The use of multiple colors and variable segment lengths significantly increases the number of possible identification combinations.

The ability to combine multiple colors with variable segment lengths creates additional differentiation options that support both installation and maintenance processes.

At the same time, the UV-based marking approach eliminates the need for solvent-based materials, contributing to a more stable and potentially less performance-influencing marking solution.

Compared to conventional solvent-based ring marking, this approach can reduce the impact on attenuation and support improved transmission performance.

The result is a cable design that benefits from:

Improved identification clarity in high fiber counts compared to conventional marking systems

Greater flexibility in design and application-specific configurations

Stable and uniform ring quality

A production process aligned with modern efficiency and sustainability requirements

Camouflage technology therefore not only enhances the marking process but also supports the overall performance and usability of the final cable product.
